Arbor Day Arborcamp - 4th Jun 2011

The 2011 Southern Arbor Day Arborcamp was held on the Uxbridge Reserve, over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend (June 4-6).

The Reserve, about 30 minutes from Oamaru into the Waitaki Valley, was long overdue for some love and attention. The Waitiki District Council came in with a 20 tonne tracked mower to ‘calm’ the undergrowth before around 30 people (arborists, friends and their families) moved in to prune, plant and remove trees.

Tents were pitched, hammocks were strung up between trees and ‘tree boats’ were set high. Fires were lit and fun was had.

Thanks to Jerry Lynch, David Glenn and Mark Roberts for organising the event. Thanks to Richard Tregoweth, Dom Eastwood, Drew Bristow and Guy Clark who had made the epic road trip down from Auckland.

As Richard [Tregoweth] from Treetools put it; “…anyone vaguely interested in tree climbing should make an effort to attend one of these arbor camps. Jerry always manages to provide the right mix of work, play and education - as well as the opportunity to spend time with peope who are interested in tree work and tree climbing”
