The Telford Diploma in Arboriculture (Level 5)


The Telford Diploma in Arboriculture is designed for those wishing to take their skills and knowledge to the next level. It is a theory-based course that can be completed over one or two years without the need for you to stop working.

The Diploma is designed for those entering into management positions, or thinking of going down the self-employed track. It is intended to extend the participant’s knowledge and awareness of trees, together with understanding some of the complex factors concerning their care and management.

The Telford Diploma in Arboriculture course considers a wide range of issues relating to the ecological, environmental, social, historical, political and financial aspects of tree management.

The scope of the diploma study programme gives students an insight into many of the current systems and processes involved in management. It is both challenging and rewarding. There is a significant self-study workload involved to complete the assignments.

The Telford Diploma in Arboriculture is divided into four modules. These are:

Arboriculture 1: Tree Management

  • Plant Physiology, Tree Mechanics and Dynamics; Trees in the Landscape; Tree Selection.

Arboriculture 2: Resource Management

  • Contract Management; Tender Process; Employment Law; Human Resource Management.

Arboriculture 3: Asset Management

  • Asset Management Principles and Planning; Compiling an Asset Management Plan; Data Management; Role of Local Government.

Arboriculture 4: Financial Management

  • Financial Terminology; Operational/Capital Budgets; Business Planning; Overhead Costs; Respreads; Community Outcomes; Management Structures.
