Urban Biodiversity & Ecology for Sustainable Cities - 30th Jun 2010
Singapore will be hosting the 2nd World Cities Summit (WCS 2010) from 28
Jun to 1 Jul 2010. The event is co-organised by the Centre for Liveable
Cities and the Civil Service College, Singapore. WCS 2010 will be held in
conjunction with the Singapore International Water Week 2010 and the 2nd
World Urban Transport Leaders Summit. The WCS 2010 is expected to attract
some 1,000 delegates from around the world, including Ministers, Mayors,
business leaders, senior policy makers and high-level experts.
The theme for WCS 2010 is "Liveable and Sustainable Cities for the Future",
with a focus on good governance, best practices, and innovative and
pragmatic solutions for building liveable and sustainable communities. An
interesting programme has been lined up comprising thematic plenary
sessions as well as high level expert sessions building, sustainable
development, as well as challenges confronting cities such as climate
change, water, energy and food security. WCS 2010 will provide an excellent
networking platform for the exchange of best practices and identification
of urban solutions that are practical, scalable and replicable.
The National Parks Board (NParks) will be organising an Expert Panel
Session titled "Urban Biodiversity & Ecology for Sustainable Cities" on the
third day of the Summit on 30 Jun 2010. In this session, we have invited an
international panel of eminent speakers to share their experiences and
knowledge on enhancing cities' biodiversity. NParks will also be organising
an Urban Biodiversity Conservation Learning Journey to Pulau Ubin for
delegates to have a first-hand experience of Chek Jawa, a nature area with
rich marine biodiversity, which has been conserved in Singapore. It is our
pleasure to invite you and your colleagues to join in NPark’s Expert Panel
Session and our Urban Biodiversity Conservation Learning Journey.
